What a Wedding DJ Costs in Greenville, SC
SoundChoice DJ · · 7 min read
Real package prices, what moves them, and how to compare a quote without guessing.
A wedding DJ in Greenville, SC generally runs between $1,200 and $2,300, and where you land inside that range comes down to four things: how many hours you need, whether your ceremony is covered, which add-ons you want, and how far the venue is from town.
We publish our prices, which is less common in this industry than it should be. Here they are, so you can budget from a real number instead of a guess.
Our packages, start to finish
Party Time, $1,195. Three hours of reception coverage with a DJ and MC, two loudspeakers, one wireless microphone, and dance floor lighting.
Party Time Plus, $1,795. Five hours, and it adds ceremony music. This is the one most couples book, because five hours is what a ceremony, dinner and a full dance floor actually takes.
The Ultimate Party, $2,295. Five hours with ceremony music, wireless LED uplighting for the room, and our Ring Light photo booth.
Every package includes dance floor lighting. That matters more than it sounds: a dance floor under the room's normal house lights does not fill, no matter what is playing.
What "DJ and MC" actually covers
The MC half is the part couples underestimate when comparing quotes. It means someone is cueing your grand entrance, making the announcements, keeping your timeline moving, and coordinating with your photographer and caterer so the toasts do not land while half the room is still getting dinner.
If a quote you are comparing is cheaper, check whether it includes MC work or only music. They are different jobs, and only one of them holds a reception together.
What moves the price
Hours
Additional time past your package is $250 an hour, or $125 for a half hour. Most couples who book three hours and then extend on the night would have been better off starting with five.
A useful way to think about it: count backward from when you want the dance floor to end, not forward from when guests arrive.
Ceremony coverage
Ceremony music is included in Party Time Plus and The Ultimate Party. As a standalone add-on it is $300, and it buys a separate small sound system at the ceremony site plus a wireless lapel microphone on your officiant.
Outdoors, that lapel mic is not optional. There are no walls to reflect sound back to your guests, so anything you want the back row to hear has to be sent there deliberately.
One timing note worth planning around: we arrive and start setting up thirty minutes before your ceremony begins, so prelude music is running as guests find their seats and everything is checked before doors. When you send us a ceremony start time, that is what we build the day backward from.
Add-ons
- Uplighting, $195. Wireless LED fixtures around the room's perimeter. In a plain hotel ballroom or a new neutral venue, this is the single biggest change to how the room photographs for the money.
- Ring Light photo booth, $495. Open-air booth with text and social sharing, boomerangs, filters, a custom overlay for your wedding, and an online gallery afterward.
- Photo booth backdrop, $75. Ten designs. None is included by default, deliberately, because the backdrop sits behind every single photo and it should be your choice rather than ours.
Travel
There is no travel fee inside the Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson areas.
Past sixty miles one way, travel is $0.75 per mile for the round trip. Sixty miles is a threshold rather than an allowance, so the whole drive is billable once you cross it. We calculate it from your venue's actual address and the route we will actually drive, so ask for the number when you inquire and you will get a real figure rather than an estimate.
This comes up most for our Western North Carolina couples. If you are marrying in Asheville or Hendersonville, ask us to run the address.
Your date
Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve carry a flat $500 holiday premium for weddings. December private parties have no holiday premium. Nothing else about the date changes wedding pricing, though the popular Saturdays in April, May, October and November book earliest.
Three examples, with the math
A short reception in Greenville. Four hours, no ceremony coverage, no add-ons. Party Time at $1,195 plus one additional hour at $250 comes to $1,445. No travel fee.
The most common booking. Ceremony and a five hour reception in Simpsonville, with uplighting. Party Time Plus at $1,795 plus $195 comes to $1,990. Still no travel fee.
Everything, further out. Five hours with ceremony music, uplighting and the booth, at a venue seventy-five miles away. The Ultimate Party at $2,295, a backdrop at $75, and 150 round trip miles at $0.75 adding $112.50, comes to $2,482.50.
We take a 25% retainer to hold your date, so that middle example books with $497.50 and the balance is due later.
How to compare quotes without guessing
Wedding DJ quotes are hard to compare because they bundle differently. Four questions make them comparable:
- How many hours, and what happens if we run long? An hourly overage rate you did not know about is the most common surprise on a wedding invoice.
- Is ceremony sound included, or separate? Many quotes cover the reception only, and the ceremony is where sound problems are most audible.
- Is dance floor lighting included? If it is an upcharge, add it before you compare, because a dark floor stays empty.
- What happens if our DJ is sick that morning? A one-person operation has no answer to this. Ask anyway, and listen to how quickly the answer comes.
Get all four in writing. A vendor who will not put hours and inclusions in a contract is telling you something.
How an experienced wedding DJ helps
Price is the easy part to compare. What you are actually buying is judgment on the night, and a few concrete things make that judgment more likely.
Planning happens before the day, in writing. We meet ahead of your wedding and build the details in our client portal: your song requests, the names in your wedding party, your do-not-play list, and the running order. Your DJ reads that before they arrive rather than learning it in the room.
There are seventeen DJs on our roster. That is why the sick-morning question has a real answer, and it is why we can match a personality to your reception instead of sending whoever is free.
Reading a room is the whole job. A playlist cannot see the dance floor thinning at nine forty. A person standing in that room can, and changes the next three songs.
The reviews are public and specific. We are 5.0 across 145 Google reviews, 4.9 on The Knot, and 5.0 on WeddingWire. Read the ones that name a DJ, because that tells you what a specific night felt like.
